Long's Peak: Key Hole 2023-2024
This gray and chaotic painting was inspired by a dream I had about an undulating mountain. It reminded me of Long's Peak--I mountain I tried summitting with my father many times growing up but never summitted. The hike is long and must be started at 4am. Moreover, the front of the mountain is called "the Diamond" an enormous cliff that takes more than a day to climb. The mountain is gorgeous but treacherous. One must pass through the key-hole near the boulderfield about half way up the mountain to key around the back side. When I was a child, my hair stood on end, and I could taste mental in my mouth when the storms on the mountain prevented me and my father from summitting. Sometimes nightmares are the best inspiration for dealing with nature and putting your fears on canvas.
