The inspiration for this painting was my own feelings of loss and the complexities of depression. I wanted to create an abstract piece similar to Pablo Picasso's "The Old Guitarist" which hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago. The painting is not meant to be nihilistic rather express Andre Gide's ideas that happiness is impeded by the memory of happiness.
